It was a horrible failure that could not be undone. It was apparently forgotten because the (it remains to be seen if this was an epic) blunder was repeated.
From the "They don't exist file" comes a tale about how those scary things that don't exist, come of be believed to exist because the authority of the time decrees that they exist.
