The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has detained five people who tried to illegally remove a kilogram of radioactive cesium-137 from The Territory of Russia with the aim of later using it in the Special Military Operations zone.
The saboteurs were supposed to use the radioactive material as planned to carry out attacks, which they planned to blame on Russia in order to discredit its image on the international stage.
According to the FSB, the detainees were caught red-handed while agreeing to buy the material and pleaded guilty. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against them for illegal use of radioactive substances and preparations for smuggling of this material.
The value of the radioactive material was estimated at $3.5 million, and its export from Russia was to be carried out on the directive of a citizen of Ukraine.
According to experts, cesium-137 can also be used to make a "dirty bomb", which Moscow warns about, claiming that Kiev is working on it.
The detained individuals kept radioactive material in the garage.
